RECENT NOTEWORTHY NEWS AND COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS
Gil Stratton has semi-retired and lives in Los Angeles with his wife of forty years, actress/singer Dee Stratton.
Gil was honored by the Pacific Pioneer Broadcaster Association (PPB) in May, 2002.
There he was roasted by such entertainment and sports luminaries as Nannette Fabrey,
Richard Crenna, President of Southern California Sportcasters Stu Nahan, voiceover legend Janet Waldo,
hysterical comedic writer Hal Kanter, George Nicolaw of KNX, and the grandson of Cecil B. deMille Joe Harper.
Gil has served as both PPB's Vice President and as PPB President and is one of their Diamond Circle Honorees.
With the recent release of such classics as Stalag 17 and the Wild One on DVD and an entertainment climate starving
for nostalgia, Gil is enjoying a whole new career in public speaking. He was a featured speaker on the Princess
Cruise Line and will be a featured speaker at the Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound (REPS) conference in Seattle later
this year. Lately Gil guest starred in a few episodes of Harry Nile, a Seattle-based nationally syndicated radio
detective series about a fictional 1940's private detective. At a recent SPERDVAC (Society to Preserve and Encourage
Radio Drama, Variety and Comedy) conference, Gil starred along with Dick Beals, Janet Waldo, and Elliott Reid in
My Client Curley.
Gil has always believed in giving back to his community. For over ten years the annual Gil Stratton Golf Classic
regularly raised money for charities. The Newborn Nursery at the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is named for him
as a result of money he raised for it. He also continues to speak at Rotary Clubs and other community service clubs.
Gil enjoys encouraging young and upcoming broadcasters by teaching an Extension Workshop at CSUN. The course covers
a comprehensive analysis of sportscasting, from techniques of the trade to behind-the-scene operations for all
types of media especially radio.
Gil Stratton continues to serve the Hollywood community through his active membership and leadership in the PPB.
Gil was the second President of the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association and to this day still
serves as a current board member. And he is a current member of the Board of Directors of American Federation
of Television and Radio Artists (Los Angeles Local).
On a personal level, Gil was appointed by Ed Edelmen to serve as a Commissioner on the County Commission on
Alcoholism for several years and he continues to work hard in his community volunteering on alcohol awareness
and prevention programs.
