Gil Stratton's story spans from the Golden Age of Radio to the dawn of contemporary Sport's Broadcasting History.
PLAYING 'THE VOICE' ON TELEVISION
Gil made a transition to TV in the mid 1950s. He did live television on That's My Boy on CBS (1954-1955).
This Eisenhower-era sitcom starring Eddie Mayehoff and Gil was based on the 1951 Jerry Lewis movie.
It was ironic that Gil, a sports fan and future L.A. Rams announcer, played the bookish un-athletic son of a
retired football star Jarring Jack Jackson played by Eddie Mayhoff.
He also made guest appearances on: Your Show Time (1949); the special Shower Of Stars - Entertainment On Wheels (1954)
which also featured Betty Grable, Harry James, Danny Thomas, and Groucho Marx; and The Ernie Ford Show (1956).
Gil Stratton became so well known as the quintessential radio announcer that during the later years of his acting
career he has often played himself onscreen, such as in the movies Inside Moves and Sextette. On TV,
Gil played himself or did stints as 'announcer' types on Baretta, Trapper John M.D., Quincy, Remmington Steele,
Wonder Woman, Goldie and the Boxer Go to Hollywood, Archie Bunker's Place, soap opera General Hospital, Boy Meets World, Living Single, Malcom & Eddie and others.
In addition to television work, Gil used his long-term experience in radio to become a master at voiceover work
providing narration for Chrysler Plymouth and Miller Beer commercials. He even put his love of radio to the ultimate
test by owning and operating radio stations KKON AM and KOAS FM in Hawaii for three years.
